De uitzonderlijke, exclusieve wijnen van Pierro zijn slechts mondjesmaat
te bekomen, het grootste deel van de kleine productie blijft in Australië.
De Chardonnay heeft reeds meermaals in blinddegustaties grote witte
toppers uit Bourgogne verslaan. Dr. Michael Peterkin gaf deels zijn fulltimejob
als arts-specialist op om zich meer te wijden aan zijn grote passie
en levenswerk: Pierro. ‘I bought the property because it is a very romantic
place and close to my romantic interests, my wife Shelley (Cullen). I had no
idea what the future would bring.’ Sinds de bijzonder kleinschalige start in de
jaren tachtig kregen de exclusieve Pierro-wijnen grote waardering. Vandaag
de dag is het nog steeds piepkleine Pierro een begrip in Australië. Peterkin
maakt wijnen met een grote finessefactor, daarenboven typisch voor deze
mooie Margaret River regio. Zijn exquise Chardonnay wordt vaak de ‘Batard
Montrachet’ van Australië genoemd en rangschikt zich tegenwoordig bij de
top van de wereld.
